Sheltered Housing
Sheltered housing is aimed at helping older people, usually over 55 years, maintain their independence whilst providing low level support. Residents have their own flat and can be involved in the scheme as much or as little as they wish.
We have 3 sheltered housing schemes, comprising of around 150 homes.
What does sheltered housing offer?
- A Scheme Manager service
- 24 hour emergency call system
- Answer emergency calls and contact your family, doctor nurse or social services if necessary
- A daily call to make sure there are no problems
- Arrange social activities
- Some communal facilities like a tenants’ lounge, laundry and social activities
Who can apply for sheltered housing?
Anyone can apply for sheltered housing accommodation, you do not have to be an existing tenant. For sheltered housing with care accommodation, a referral will need to be made by a social worker or care manager.
In normal circumstances we only offer sheltered housing to applicants who are 55 years old or over. However, some disabled applicants under 55 years of age may be accepted for re-housing into sheltered housing if referred on medical grounds.
If you are applying for sheltered housing as a couple, one partner must normally be over 55 years of age
