National success at the double for Stockton company

Date: 06/03/2011

A Stockton based company is celebrating back to back success in a national awards scheme. North Star Housing Group (NSHG) has made it onto a Sunday Times Best Companies list for the second year in a row, recording even higher scores in 2011 than in the previous year. NSHG is the parent company of Endeavour Housing Association, which has been managing properties across Tees Valley for over 35 years.

The Best 100 Places to Work in the Public and Third Sectors list was compiled using data gathered from almost 600 companies across the UK. A thorough survey of staff at each organisation established how individuals feel on a range of subjects, including management, company leadership, their personal development and general well being. This year, the research at NSHG resulted in consistently higher scores in these categories An impressive 80% of the company’s 100 staff participated in the project, also higher than in 2010.

Angela Lockwood, chief executive of North Star Housing Group, comments:

“I think I speak for everyone in the group when I say that we are delighted to have been included in this list for two years in a row We have a great team spirit at North Star Housing Group and that’s something that we have all built up over the years. I think that it’s significant that our scoring has improved this year and more of our staff have participated in the research. These results over two years also clearly demonstrate that our commitment to providing an excellent working environment is one we make for the long term.

“We work hard to engender a friendly, family atmosphere at North Star, as we appreciate how that is then reflected in our relationships with our tenants. The whole process of the research was a really positive experience for staff at all levels in the organisation. It has helped identify areas where we can, and I’m sure will, continue to improve, but in the meantime it reinforces our belief that North Star is a really great place to work.”

North Star Housing Group was established five years ago and is the parent company of Endeavour Housing Association and Teesdale Housing Association. The group owns around 3,000 residential accommodation units across the North East and North Yorkshire.
