Tenants’ and Residents’ Associations (TARAS)

Tenants’ and residents’ associations are perhaps the best-known form of tenant involvement and have been in existence in various forms for over one hundred years.

They are formed by tenants and residents in a particular area – usually a housing estate or a street – getting together and electing a committee of representatives to form a TARA which will act on their behalf with any dealings with the housing association.

They can take a fair amount of work to set up and run, but a successful TARA can make a real difference in tackling problems like anti-social behaviour and can help build strong communities.

If you would like to know more about what’s involved with the setting up and running of a TARA, please contact:

Or, ask your housing officer.
